Mrs. Alice E. Barney of Clearville died at the Memorial Hospital in Cumberland Saturday Jan. 22, at which place she had been a patient for one week. Prior to that time, she was ill over a long period of time at the home in Clearville. She was born Dec 4, 1875 in Monroe Township, and as a lifelong resident of this vicinity was popular and well known. She was a devoted member of the Christian church and Sunday school taking an active part in work which went for the betterment of the community. Her parents Alberta Mearkle Karns and Simon H. Karns are both deceased. On Dec 18, 1898 she was united in marriage with Joseph S. Barney who passed away 9 years ago. Left to mourn her loss are six children and one step-son ; also 14 grandchildren. 2 sons and one daughter preceded in death. Also surviving are nine sisters and brothers.
