N. S. POFFENBARGER, LAWYER, DIES AT 63
A widely known Charleston attorney, Nathan Simpson Poffenbarger, 63, died last night in a Charleston hospital of a heart ailment.
Mr. Poffenbarger, who had been hospitalized with a coronary condition early this month, was in law practice with the firm of Hodges, Poffenbarger, Dodson and Deutsch.
He was born in Point Pleasant, August 4, 1898, a son of the late Judge George and Livia Simpson Poffenbarger.
Mr. Poffenbarger, a resident of 1009 Walnut Road, was a city councilman from the 11th Ward during the late 1930's.
He was a graduate of Ohio University and the University of Virginia Law School. A member of the Kanawha County bar since 1926, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Phi Delta Phi fraternities.
A past exalter ruler of the Charleston Elks Lodge, he was also a member of the Virginia Seniors Golf Association, Charleston Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Kanawha Community and Beni Kedem Temple of the Shrine and Royal Order of Jesters.
An Army veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Army-Navy Club, Press Club and St. Matthews Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Harriet Stubbs; a son, George II of Logan; a sister, Mrs. Natalie Bateman of Columbus, Ohio, and a brother, Perry S. Poffenbarger of Charleston.
Services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in St. Matthews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Walter J. Mycoff officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
