Ruby E. Alexander passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at her home in Highland Falls, NY at the age of 82. Daughter of the late Lucy and Louis Lanier, she was born February 20, 1929 in Jones, Alabama.
Ruby was a retired, self-employed, Home Health Aide and a Mental Hygienist with Letchworth Village, Thiells, NY. She was an active and very supportive member of St. John A.M.E. Zion Church, Highland Falls, a member of the Highlanders Senior Citizens organization, Highland Falls Historical Society, NAACP, and a member of the Civil Service Employee Association (CSEA).
Survivors include her son, Leon Evans and his wife Michelle of Poughkeepsie, NY; her daughters: Shirley Perry of Rosepine, LA; Betty Evans-Jacas of London, England; Angela Fontain and her husband Roy of Columbus, GA; Susie Carter and her husband Tony of Ellicott City, MD; her brothers: Matthew Lanier and his wife Bertha of Highland Falls; Willie Lanier and his wife Lucinda of Highland Falls; Rayfield Lanier of Highland Falls; her sisters: Evelyn Benjamin of Newburgh, NY; Daisy Lanier of Highland Falls; Lela Jackson and her husband William of Highland Falls; Adelle Barry and her husband Van of Mt. Holly, NJ; fourteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; her sister-in-laws: Doris of Birmingham, AL and Edith of Jones, AL; a host of nieces, nephews & cousins. Ruby was predeceased by her brothers Thurman Callen, James, Eddie-Louis, Frank and George; her sister, Julia Tyus and one grandchild, Jason Perry.
Visitation and acknowledgements will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday, October 14 at St. John A.M.E. Zion Church, 7 Muller Avenue, Highland Falls, NY. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at the church with Rev. Moses Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor, NY. A repast will be held immediately after the interment at the Highland Falls Fire Department on Mountain Avenue in Highland Falls, NY.
