ira was born august 27, 1914 in limestone, newton county, arkansas, the son of c.c.casey and narcissus catherine houston casey. he was their youngest child and only son.
when he was 4 years old, he and his family relocated to box community in sequoyah county, oklahoma, just north of vian.
he spent his formative years in communities around vian,attending various country schools including walters and box. he attended high school in vian.
he studied electronics while in the service of his country and was gifted in that field. he owned one of the first television dealerships in delano, california.

ira later married nettie dickerson of gore. they had three daughters, diana, cheryl, and annette.
