Kenneth was born to Glenn T. Thompson and Maude L. Bass Thompson in a little house on W. Ortega St. in Santa Barbara. He grew up in Santa Barbara and lived there his entire life. He helped his parents working in their confectionery store and malt shop at 521 State Street. During WWII he served in the Merchant Marines. His sister Marie Thompson Brooks passed away in 1942 from polio. Kenneth became Kenny to his friends and that name stayed until his death. After the war he came back to Santa Barbara to continue helping run the family malt shop. On 28 May 1950 Kenny married Alma Cole in Las Vegas, NV. They both ran the Thompson's Confectionery and Malt Shop until they closed the business in 1955. Kenny bought a new business, renting barricades to construction companies.

Kenny was my father and I could not have had a better father. I have fond memories watching the "Walt Disney Show" on Sunday nights with him and when I was very little and my hand wasn't big enough to hold his hand, he would let me hold on to his forefinger.
