Leonard was born April 23, 1916, and was baptized, schooled and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City, Missouri. His wife of 61 years was Leola Martha (Setzkorn) Vogt whom he met when she was teaching at Zion Luteran school. Leonard worked 31 years at the TWA maintenance base in Kansas City, Missouri, retiring in 1978 and moving to the Lake of the Ozarks. While employed at TWA he got his Airframe and Engine licenses by going to night school; operated a grade A dairy farm for 20 years; built two houses, one in Kansas City and one at the Lake of the Ozarks; occasionally served as church Elder and choir member; and was a charter member and active in the development and growth of two Lutheran Churches, Holy Cross and King of Kings in Kansas City, Missouri. In retirement they traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada including two trips to Hawaii, took a luxury cruise, entertained many friends and relatives at the Lake of the Ozarks, and helped form Peace Lutheran Church in Camdenton, Missouri.
Leonard was preceded in death by a son, the Reverend Loyle Ray Vogt, and by four of his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Leola; three of his siblings, Ernest Vogt and Elsa Vogt of Appleton City, Missouri, and Arthur Vogt of Rochester, New York; a son and his wife, Lyle and Rebecca Vogt of North Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Cammy and her husband Michael Shockey, Lance, Bonny, and Susanna of Kansas City, Missouri, and Derek of Bushnell, Florida; and by two great grandchildren Bryan and Jason Shockey.
