Frank, Edward A., Sr. fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, died peacefully on Sun., Oct. 9, 2011 at the age of 96. Beloved husband of the late Mary Ganley Frank; dear son of the late L. Arthur Frank and Anna Muchow Frank; brother of the late Victor J. (Virginia) Frank; and uncle of the late Robert V. (Bonita) Frank. He is survived by his sons, Edward A. Frank, Jr., Maplewood; Thomas M. Frank, Whitney, Texas; Jack (Tina) Frank, Ballwin; grandson Matthew J. Frank; nephews, Paul J. (Carol) Frank, James E. (Linda) Booth; Thomas J. (Janet) Booth and niece Patricia (Jack) Booth-Julius, and his many friends at Briarcrest Estates. He will be dearly missed. Ed was a graduate of Soldan High School. He served his country in a gallant and outstanding manner as Radarman aboard the U.S.S. President Jackson, the first ship to land combat troops in an amphibious operation of World War II, the Solomon Islands, and during the grueling and extended Iwo Jima Campaign in which the vessel was frequently under enemy fire and attack. After the war, Ed attended Washington University and played football for Coach Jim Conselman. An industrial engineer, he fashioned highly effective production methods at the United States Small Arms Plant, Prince Gardner, and Knapp Monarch, among other manufacturing companies. He was also a computer analyst/ programmer for the United States Defense Department. Ed was an Eagle Scout, an avid tennis player and coach, and a dedicated volunteer for the St. Louis Zoo Friends for over twenty years. Services: Visitation Wed. Oct. 12, 2011, 4-8 p.m. at KRIEGSHAUSER WEST, 9450 Olive Blvd., Olivette, MO. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thurs. Oct. 13 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 7313 Balson Ave., University City at 10:00 a.m. with burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mass Offerings in his name to the Carmelite Monastery, 9150 Clayton Rd., St. Louis, MO 63124 or donations to the Zoo Friends Assoc., One Government Dr., St. Louis, MO 63110.
