Mountain Peak Pair Celebrate Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary
Midlothian, Texas, Oct 24 – Mr. and Mrs. John T. Forbes celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Friday evening at their county home near Mountain Peak, six miles south of Midlothian, with more than ninety relatives and friends in attendance.
Seven of their eight children were present: Chester Forbes, Venus; Milton K. Forbes, Fort Worth; Roy Forbes, Maypearl; Raymond R. Forbes and Mrs. H. W. Edwards, Mountain Peak; Mrs. J. I. Roten and Mrs. A. B. Eskridge, Midlothian; Ben Forbes of Smyer could not attend.
Two brothers and two sisters of Mr. Forbes shared in the celebration, J. L. W. Forbes, Mountain Peak; W. H. Forbes, Mrs. W. W. Major and Mrs. Etta Dunaway, all of Midlothian.
Mr. and Mrs. Forbes have twenty-five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, most of whom were in attendance. After the bountiful spread, which assumed the proportions of a banquet, an old-fashioned singing was taken part in by all. Singing in the Forbes family is traditional.
Mr. and Mrs. Forbes have the distinction of being the first couple to marry in the old Mountain Peak Church shortly after it was build in 1881 and they have lived in this community ever since.
