Absecon – John S. Gibson, 86, died Tuesday at the Linwood Convalescent Center.
The owner and operator of the John S Gibson & Son Plumbing and Heating Co. in Atlantic City for 34 years, he retired 20 years ago.
A past president and very active in the Venice Park Civic Club of Atlantic City, Mr. Gibson was a life member of the Morris Guards in Atlantic City, the Atlantic Masonic Lodge No. 221, the Masonic Luncheon Club, the Square Club, and the American Association of Retired Persons in Absecon.
He played the role of Santa Claus for 36 years in the area and was a member of the Absecon Methodist Church. Born in Philadelphia and a resident here for the past six years, Mr. Gibson lived most of his life in Atlantic City.
Surviving are: his wife, Florence; two sons, John C. of Minneapolis, Minn., and Arthur C. of Absecon; six grandchildren; and 17 great grand children.
Services will be held at 11am Friday at Jeffries and Keates Funeral Home, Northfield. Burial will be in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 pm Thursday at the funeral home where Masonic services will be held at 8 pm.
