Nora Springs (IA) Advertiser, Wed. Sept. 18, 1996, p. 3:4. Burton G. “Peanuts” Brierly, 62, of Nora Springs, died Fri. Sept. 13, 1996, at the Nora Springs Care Center. The body was cremated. There was no visitation. Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, was in charge of arrangements. A graveside inurnment service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Pippert of the Nora Springs United Methodist Church officiating. Military honors were conducted at the cemetery by the Nora Springs American Legion Post #449. Burton G. Brierly was born Mar. 15, 1934, at Nora Springs, the son of Garrett and Adda Tibbits Brierly. He grew up in Nora Springs, and served in the 82nd Airborne from 1954 to 1956. Mr. Brierly worked many years as a self-employed carpenter in the Nora Springs area. He enjoyed gardening, friends and family. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3449. Survivors inlcude two sons, Bryan Brierly and his wife, Kathy, Nora Springs, and Tony Brierly and his wife, Robin, Grafton; one daughter, Kristi Brierly, student at UNI, Cedar Falls; three brothers, Gale, Delbert and Gordon, all of Nora springs; one sister, Mary Lou Stoltenberg, Tripoli; four grandchildren, Anda and Jill Brierly, both of Nora Springs, and Eden and Garrett Brierly, both of Grafton; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Theresa Brierly; two sisters, Virginia Rethamel and Etna Brierly; and two brothers, Howard and Kenneth.
