From the Appleton Post-Crescent, March 12, 1929:

Mrs. Samuel Fomon, 32, died Monday at her home in Chicago. Mrs. Fomon before her marriage was Miss Isabel Sherman of this city. Survivors are the widower, Dr. Samuel Fomon; three sons, John, Samuel, and Robert; four sisters, Mrs. C.F. Mullen, Miss Marie Sherman of this city, Miss Agnes Sherman of Green Bay, Mrs. Basil McKenzie of this city; one brother, Major A. Edward Sherman of Los Angeles. The body will be at the Schommer Funeral home after 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be at 8:30 Thursday morning from the funeral home and at 9 o'clock from St. Mary church.

Isabel was a physician, married to another physician. Her children were raised by her sister Marie, who never married. Her elder two sons became prominent physicians; the youngest became chairman of E.F. Hutton.

Isabel married Dr. Samuel John Fomon (November 11, 1887-1971), in Chicago on October 2, 1920 as his second wife. His first wife was named Stella, and they were divorced between 1910 and 1920 without having had children. Dr. Fomon was the son of Jewish immigrants from Romania, Jacob and Rose Fomon. He was also born there, but came to the U.S. with them in 1890. He was a pioneer in plastic surgery of the nose.

Children:
1. Dr. John Joseph (February 10, 1922-November 1969); married Shirley Terry on April 5, 1945; one son, Michael.
2. Dr. Samuel John, Jr.; married Betty Lorraine Freeman, 19 Jul 1948; five children.
3. Robert Michael; married first, Marilyn Quaintance, with whom he had two children, Anne and Robert. He married, second, Sharon Kay Ritchie, who had been crowned Miss America 1956 and was the ex-wife of "Band of Gold" singer Don Cherry. Both of these marriages ended in divorce. He married, third, Daphne Lewis Ashley Widener.

Dr. Samuel Fomon was remarried in Chicago on October 13, 1944, to Lenore Davis (April 20, 1904-January 20, 2006), and they had a daughter, Lenore Marie.
