Charles was the oldest child of Herman Dollase and his wife, Auguste Gruenewald. He came to America with his parents and younger sister when he was about three years old. He married Louise Weidenhoeft June 17, 1908. They had three children; Mytrle, Roy, and Dorothy. Roy died as an infant. Charles's career was in shoemaking.
