Dr. J. M. McCorkle is dead.
John Macon McCorkle, son of Hon. M. L. and Mrs.. M. J. McCorkle, was born February 17, 1860, and died at his father's residence in this place of consumption at 3 o'clock on the morning of Dec. 12th. 1895, aged 35 years. 10 months and 26 days. In 1881 he graduated at the Medical College in Philadelphia and once began the practive of medicine in this place, where he made himself dearly beloved by his tender kindness and gentleness of heart. On December 3rd, 1890, he married Miss Matt, youngest daughter of the late Gen. Robert Ransom, who together with his aged parents, three brothers, and two sisters are left to mourn his early death.
Dr. McCorkle joined the German Reformed Church when a young man and his life was that of a lowly Christian.
It was in wating? on the wounded in that fatal wreck nearly 5 years ago that he caught the disease from which he died. (Bostian's Bridge, NC Train Disaster, Aug 1891)
A devoted husband, tender, loving son, affectionate brother, a kind sympathizing friend. There are few hearts in Newton that do ot feel a pang of sorrow at the news of Dr. McCorkle's sad death.
His remains were laid to rest Friday afternoon at 2o'clock, the funeral service being held at the Reformed Church.
