Miss Ellen Martin Dead.
Mr. H. C. Kuykendall received a telegram at 11:30 from Macon, Georgia, announcing the death there of Miss Ellen Martin, from paralysis, this morning.
The deceased was a sister of Gen. W. T. Martin of Natchez, and of Mrs. Dr. Kerr, of Brandon, Mississippi. Besides her well-known literary efforts, she has been a prominent factor in the state's educational institutions. Her devotion to the Confederate cause and the associations springing from it are indelibly impressed in their history.
As one who has devoted a strong mentality to her native state to the elevation and education of its youth, to the alleviation and care of its maimed, gallant survivors of the Civil War, whose every thought and untiring efforts were unselfishly given for others, her loss comes as a severe one to the people of the state.
