Katie was the eldest daughter and grew up in Utah and Nevada, losing her father at a young age. Her mother remarried, and Katie and her two siblings were raised mainly by her maternal grandmother in Cedar City. In 1913 at Los Angeles, she wed Dave, a traveling salesman for oil companies. The family moved around a lot over the years, and the couple separated once their children were grown. During World War II, Katie took a job at McClellen AFB, Sacramento, and she continued to work there until her retirement many years later. In 1981 Katie had a bad fall and had to be hospitalized. She then suffered several small strokes. Eventually, she recovered enough to be released to a convalescence hospital and later a retirement home. At age 94, she died of pneumonia and Parkinson's Disease, having outlived all 6 of her siblings. Survived by her daughter Isabelle, son Dave, 9 grandchildren, and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
