Wilbur Edward Townsend, 60, a lifelong Gallatin Valley resident, died Saturday at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

He was born in Manhattan on September 5, 1922, to Charles and Leeta (Scow) Townsend. He attended school in Manhattan, where he later ranched for several years. During World War II he served with the 3010 Army Air Force Base Unit.

On June 2, 1945, he married Eleanor Forrest at Phoenix, Arizona.

For the past 27 years he was employed as parts manager for Rolfe and Wood.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Gallatin Lodge No. 6, AF & AM.

Survivors include his wife of Bozeman; one son, Chuck of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Brenda) Putnam of Bozeman and Mrs. Bruce (Marsha) Putnam of Billings; his mother, Mrs. Leeta Townsend of Bozeman; two brothers, Wendell and Phillip, both of Manhattan; one uncle and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel in Bozeman. Burial was at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
