Born May 28, 1914, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Sellers B. and Edith Mae (Miller) Zong.
Her first husband, William P. Knouse, whom she married Dec. 16, 1933, died February 1976. Her second husband, John K. Layson, whom she married Sept. 16, 1978, died May 1995.
Surviving are: children, Jon M. "Jack" Knouse, Reedsville and Mrs. Willliam (Sue Ann) Sheaffer, Beavertown; sisters, Mildred Gensheimer, Mauahawkin, NJ, Jean Thummel, Harleysville, and Patricia Zong, Blue Bell; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William; brothers, Walter Zong and an infant brother; sisters, Esther Neff and Kathryn Rodkey; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
She was employed as a seamstress for L. Shellenberger & Sons and Lyon Fashion, McAlisterville, until her retirement in 1972.
She was a member of the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville; the Presbyterian Women; the McAlisterville Ladies Club; and a charter member of Lady Lafayette Rebekah Lodge 384.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Walter E. Williams and the Rev. Graham C. Fowler officiating. Interment was in Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Friends called 4-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
