Bruce M. Tillinghast, 82, of Wilmington, formerly of Cincinnati, died Wednesday morning, March 9th at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Doris Upton Tillinghast.
He was born Oct. 25, 1928, in Springfield, Ohio and was the son of the late Niles and Dora Flora Tillinghast. He worked as a branch claims manager for both Motorist Mutual and State Auto Insurance. He was a member of C.L.A.S.S. as well as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Mark Tillinghast of Georgia, Joel Tillinghast of Batavia, David Tillinghast of Cincinnati, Andrew (Jane) Tillinghast of Kentucky, William Tillinghast of Cincinnati and Caroline (Mohamed) Khalaf of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Amber, Roxanne and Benjamin; and several great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. One branch of his family tree goes back ten generations to John Alden 1598-1687 who was an American colonial figure. John Alden was one of the charter members of the Plymouth Colony in America. He arrived on the first voyage of the Mayflower.
