Prior to WW II, Mr. Nabors worked for the Frisco Railroad. After the war, he again was employed by the Frisco Railroad. In 1964, he took a promotion and was transferred to Springfield, Mo., the home office of the Frisco. He retired in 1980 subsequent to the merger of the Frisco with the Burlington Northern Railroad Company. During his career with the Frisco, he lived in Amory, Springfield, Mo., Birmingham, Ala., and Memphis. After retirement, he served as the vice president of the Frisco/BNSF Railroad Club in Memphis.
A committal service with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Masonic Cemetery. Philip Hathcock will officiate. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gena Turner Nabors of Huntsville, Ala.; two children, Guy Dennis Nabors (Ruth) of Montgomery, Ala., and Jan Nabors Ellis (Jimmy) of Huntsville; six grandchildren, Edward Robert Barrow (Paula) of Middleburg, Fla., Scott Michael Barrow (Laura Beth) of Kekaha, Hawaii, Caroline Nabors Rosen (Brent) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Guy Dennis Nabors Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ross Spratling Nabors of Tuscaloosa and Krysten Ellis Pelstring (Jeremy) of Norfolk, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hunter and Boothe; and his sister, Mildred Nabors Keeton of Birmingham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca N. Howard.
Pallbearers will be Edward Robert Barrow Jr., AD1 Scott Michael Barrow, USN, Guy Dennis Nabors Jr., Ross Spratling Nabors, Brent Louis Rosen, Donny W. Harrison and Mark A. Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be retired railroad employees.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:40 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mr. Nabors' favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of their choice.
