Rose Bricher (nee Edlund) was proud of her Swedish heritage and always served pickled herring and krumkaka at Christmas.

Her sense of direction was normally excellent, but I remember her confessing that a couple of times in her life everything "flipped" and the only way home was to force herself to make all the turns in the opposite direction to what her brain was telling her to do.

She loved her children, her grandchildren and her parakeets, and believed in fairness. Mrs Bricher and her friend Mrs Coonan sponsored the first Jewish woman to the Highland Park (St Paul) Ladies Club. Unfortunately, I have forgotten the woman's name, if I ever knew it.

Our "Grandma B" was much loved.
