Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Second Lieutenant in Company G, 74th Indiana Infantry for action on September 20, 1863 at Chickamauga, Georgia. His citation reads "While exposed to a galling fire, Chamberlain went in search of another regiment, found its location, procured ammunition from the men thereof, and returned with the ammunition to his own company."
