THE BURIAL OF LIEUTENANT J. DORSEY ASH, OF THE KEYSTONE BATTERY, AND ALEX S. MILLER, OF COMPANY H, SIXTH REGIMENT.
Post No. 2, of the Grand Army of the Republic, 82 men, under the command of Charles H. Kennedy, assembled yesterday afternoon at three o'clock, and, accompanied by the flute and drum corps of the post, attended the funeral of their late comrade, Lieutenant J. Dorsey Ash, who was killed during the fight at Pittsburg. Four members of the Keystone Battery and a delegation from the Olympic Baseball Club were also present. Four members of the post and two of the battery acted as pall-bearers. The services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Yarnall, of St. Mary's Protestant Episcopal Church, at the residence of Lieutenant Ash, on Spruce street, above Thirty-seventh. The interment took place in Woodland Cemetery.
The remains were encased in a rosewood coffin, over which the flags of the post and battery were draped. There were many beautiful floral tributes from sorrowing friends. He was dressed in the uniform of the battery, and on his left breast was pinned the badge of the Grand Army.
The post filed past the remains, which were in the front parlor of the house, and took a last look at their faithful comrade, who died as a soldier hopes to die, while fighting against the wrong for the triumph of the right. The post was then drawn up in a double line upon the pavement, and the remains borne between them to the hearse, which proceeded to the cemetery, followed not only by the sorrowing comrades of the deceased, but by a large number of friends and relatives."
