The Buckhannon (West Virginia) Delta & Knight Errant, November 21, 1907:

The death of James B. Gould Tuesday morning, while not wholly unexpected by his family and neighbors, came like a flash of lightening from a clear sky to many of his friends throughout Upshur County, who were not aware that the death angel was hovering so near his home.
The deceased had not been feeling well for a week or two, but he continued to look after his interests at the Anchor Mills, he being the senior member of the firm of Gould & Reynolds, and was busy engaged with his work about the mill when he was suddenly stricken with paralysis - the fatal malady which terminated in his death at about 11 o'clock Tuesday morning. Although every effort was made to arouse him, he never fully gained consciousness and he passed peacefully away surrounded by his family and friends and in the midst of the tenderest care of loving hands.
Mr. Gould came to this city from French Creek about two years ago and engaged in the milling business, and only a few months ago he sold a half interest to Mr. H.W. Reynolds, and the milling business was changed to the firm name of Gould & Reynolds.
Mr. Gould was a kind husband, an indulgent father, a good neighbor and an upright Christian gentleman and everyone who knew him speaks of him with the utmost reverence and respect. In his death he leaves a loving and devoted wife and several children who have the heartfelt sympathy of all in this bereavement. The funeral services were held at the home on the Island at 3:00 yesterday afternoon, and the interment took place this morning at the Beechtown Cemetery.
