Daughter of Melchior and Catherine Koch Kechely, was born on a farm near Odell, Gage County, Nebraska. Clara and her twin brother, Clarence were the youngest of 14 children. Clara was a faithful Christian all her life. She never married and lived with her sister Pearl Maggie Kechely With and family after the passing of her parents. After her schooling she worked in many jobs and in her later years devoted all her free time to her church.
