Floyd Ernest Van Vliet, a native of Syracuse, New York,
and a resident of Roseville since 1892, died Saturday in a Sacramento hospital. Van Vliet, a retired switchman, began work at the Southern Pacific Company in 1897, and worked out of Rocklin and Roseville for a number of years. He was transferred to Sacramento in 1913, and later reassigned to Roseville. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainsmen.
His father, the late Rev. George H. Van Vliet, was a Methodist Minister in Roseville for 15 years before his death.
Three children survive. His wife, the late Amy B. Van Vliet, died March 18, 1959. There are four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Lambert Funeral Home in Roseville at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. William Dyer of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Lawn, Sacramento.
