Kevin J. White
July 14, 1958, to Sept. 5, 2001 Kevin J. White, 43, died Sept. 5 at Continental Rehab Convalescent Hospital in San Diego, Calif.
He was born July 14, 1958, to Floyd "Bud" and Katherine (Varnum) White in Grinnell. He spent his childhood in Malcom and moved to Nevada in 1971. He was a 1976 graduate of Nevada High School and received a diploma in bookkeeping/accounting at DMACC-Boone Campus in 1978. He was employed by Story County Hospital for several years in the business office. In 1986, he received a BA degree in Speech Communications at Loras College in Dubuque. He then worked for three years for ARA Services, a food service company for college dining services at Minnesota State Universities in Bemidji and Marshall. He switched career paths in 1989 and moved to Des Moines, where he was employed with Paine Webber in the operations department. He moved with the company to Omaha in 1993 and later to San Diego in 1994, where he worked for all branches in San Diego. Most recently, he was senior cashier in the downtown San Diego branch of Paine Webber.
He enjoyed warm weather and attending cultural events in San Diego. He held a passion for photography, music and cooking.
Funeral Mass was held Monday, Sept. 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell with the Rev. William Reynolds officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association and/or the American Heart Association. Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, handled arrangements.
