Florence R Maitland, of Springhill Senior Living Community, died Saturday, Sept 20, 2003, at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center. She was born in Burtbille, Potter County, daughter of the late William and Agnes Martin Farrell. She formerly lived in Meadville. She was a math teacher and guidance counselor in the Crawford Central School District, retiring in 1976. She was a 1930 graduate of Kinzua High School and recieved a bachelor's degree and then a master's degree in 1967 from Edinboro State College. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Meadville; National, Pennsylvania and Crawford County chapters of the Retired Teachers Association; Golden Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; the Crawford County Humane Society, and the AARP. She was a charter member and past officer of the Order of the Amaranth and former member of the American Association of Univeristy Women and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. She was honored recently by the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees for her teaching ability, dedication and volunteerism. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon R Maitland, whom she married July 1, 1937; and a brother, W Donald Farrell. Survivors include a daughter, Judith M Green of Erie; two grandsons, Adam Michael Green and Noah Russell Green; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville. The Robert W Waid Funeral Home, Inc, 581 Chesnut St, Meadville, is handling the arrangements.
