Ella was the daughter of T. Milton Spencer and Catherine E. Vedder. She married Frederick Elonza Chase on January 24, 1894 in Pocahontas (Pocahontas County), Iowa. They had six children; four sons and two daughters.

C. L. Day of Bradgate, a former Havelock pastor, officiating. The many floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. George Waters, Mrs. Vern Waters and Mrs. Duane Gibson. She came to Pocahontas county in the early part of 1893. On January 24, 1894, she was united in marriage to Fred E. Chase at Pocahontas and continued to live in this community until her death. To this union six children were born: Walter of Laurens, Nathan E. of Denver, Colo., Ray E. of Des Moines, George F. of Fontana, Calif., Mrs. Wilma Waters of Havelock, and Mrs. Ruth Bozikowski of Rochester, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died May 1, 1919. In addition to her children she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Alida Habben of Ballaton, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. ... In her early married life she was an active member of the Free Methodist church and also of the Legion Auxiliary. ...
