Ella was the daughter of T. Milton Spencer and Catherine E. Vedder. She married Frederick Elonza Chase on January 24, 1894 in Pocahontas (Pocahontas County), Iowa. They had six children; four sons and two daughters.

OBITUARY NOTICE: Obituary Notice: Rolfe Arrow, Rolfe, Pocahontas County, Iowa; article dated, Thursday, August 13, 1953. Excerpt, "... Final Rites Held At Havelock for Mrs. Ella Chase Havelock—Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Chase were held from the Eugene Waters home Thursday at 2:15 p.m. and from the Havelock Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. C. L. Day of Bradgate, a former Havelock pastor, officiating. The many floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. George Waters, Mrs. Vern Waters and Mrs. Duane Gibson. Mrs. Donald Brent and Mrs. Eugene Dyvig, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. John Whitman, sang, "Where He Leads I Will Follow," "For He Is So Precious To Me," and "My Jesus I Love Thee," favorites of the deceased. Pall bearers were Bert Jacobson, Sam Veazie, George Cole, Carl Barth, Joe Edge and Harold Hauswirth. Interment was in Washington cemetery.
Ella Spencer Chase, daughter of Catherine and Thomas Spencer, was born March 27, 1875, in Osceola county, on a farm near Sibley and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wilma Waters, in Havelock August 3, 1953, at the age of 78 years, four months and seven days, after three weeks illness.
She came to Pocahontas county in the early part of 1893. On January 24, 1894, she was united in marriage to Fred E. Chase at Pocahontas and continued to live in this community until her death. To this union six children were born: Walter of Laurens, Nathan E. of Denver, Colo., Ray E. of Des Moines, George F. of Fontana, Calif., Mrs. Wilma Waters of Havelock, and Mrs. Ruth Bozikowski of Rochester, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died May 1, 1919. In addition to her children she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Alida Habben of Ballaton, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. ... In her early married life she was an active member of the Free Methodist church and also of the Legion Auxiliary. ... The following from a distance attended the last rites: Mrs. Alida Habben of Florence, Minn., Rollie Habben and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Habben of Ruthton, Minn., Mrs. Walter Phriebe of Slayton, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. William Habben of Balaton, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Herman Habben of Tyler, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Gene Chase of Rollo, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Louie Bozikowski, Jane and David of Rochester, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Gary Waters and Barbara, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Smith, all of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Fay Torkelson and family of Bode, Miss Annetta Green of West Bend, Nathan Chase of Denver, Colo., Geo.
