Frances "Sue" Bowers, member of pioneering Colfax family dies at 81 Frances Evelyn "Sue" McNeely Bowers, died Friday, June 4, 1999 at Christus St. Frances Hospital, Alexandria. A memorial service was held Sunday, June 6, at the Colfax United Methodist Church and her body was donated to Louisiana State University Medical Center. Mrs. Bowers, a descendant of a pioneering plantation and business family in Colfax, was 81. She was the wife of the late Robert C. Bowers and the daughter of Thomas Ludlow and Dewey LaCroix McNeely of Colfax, and the granddaughter of John Hodges and Olive Amy McKnight McNeely. Known as "Miss Sue" to her friends and family, she was a retired teacher, having taught for many years at Colfax, and an active member of the Colfax United Methodist Church and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Olive Chapter No. 50, Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. Survivors include a daughter, Frances McNeely Bowers Leach of St. Louis, Missouri; two sons, Robert C. Bowers, Jr. and Thomas Nash Bowers, both of Colfax; on [one] brother, Dr. Thomas Ludlow McNeely, Jr. of Crowley, six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Attapkapas council, Boy Scouts of America, or to the Colfax United Methodist Church.
