Her actual date of death is uncertain, but we know she died some time after April 1882-1883. She married William A. Barnes, and he was killed in his home by guerrillas in 1862. According to family stories, she and her children were given safe passage by the Union soldiers out of Tennessee. She and her family returned home after the war, and she lived out the rest of her life in Stewart County, TN. Rebecca left this world not knowing how to read or write, but many of her descendants became educators.
