Index, notes, photos, map, 8vo., orange cloth, dj., VG condition, 687 pp. James Mallory was born in Orange County, Virginia in 1897, the son of Melinda Welch Mallory and Uriel Mallory. In 1834 he moved to Alabama. He and his wife, Ann Maria Darby, raised a large family [at least 7 children]. James Mallory lived on Selwood Plantation in southern Talladega County, Alabama. He kept nearly every day from 1843-1877 a detailed journal of what interested him - an account of weather conditions, local, national, and often foreign affairs, and especially what happened to him and his family, his relatives, slaves, and neighbors.
