Warren and I met, sometime around our 5th grade and became the best of friends. We spent many a day, along with family members and friends, running the neighborhood doing the things that kids do! In some respect, I think I was somewhat considered family as I spent alot of my time at his house, just hanging out or spending the night! When we were in the 8th grade, close to graduation, one of my friends and Warren got into a scuffle and for some reason, Warren and his brother Milton, held me responsible. Warren didn't talk to me again and Milton, one day shortly after approached me on the way to class, walked up to me and gut punched me. Shocked but I didn't react as I didn't want to cause more of a problem. The last time I saw Warren was on graduation day when he, his mother and brothers, Milton and Norman walked pass me and my mother as we were getting our picture taken. No words or glances by them were exchanged! A week to the day later Warren was killed returning from his aunt's house on the other side of the hills from St. Johns. He, Milton and two of their other friends were riding their bikes back home from having spent the night at the aunts. The Aunt wanted to drive them back, but they insisted that they ride their bikes. Going down Germantown Road Warren lost control of his bike and skidded under a passing logging truck. He died on route to the hospital. Later that day, as I was in my back yard, Bob Hyke came zooming up on his bike saying that Milton Hunt and got ran over and died. Later we found out his error as it was Warren, not Milton! I attended his funeral, a very sad time for me to see my friend lying in his final rest. Went to the burial with some of my other friends, still in disbelief what I was witnessing was real! Sometime later I learned that someone placed a crank call to Warrens home laughing and saying how glad they were that he was killed! Milton blamed me but I know that Warren knew better! Warren was what we say now, my BFF! (Best Friend Forever) Still is!
