Ioune Henrietta Davis, age 95, of Beach, North Dakota died at the Wibaux County Nursing Home in Wibaux, Montana on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. She had been a resident there for eight years and two months.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the First Lutheran Church in Beach with Pastors J.T. Burke and Roger Dieterle officiating. Interment will follow the lunch in the Beach Lutheran Cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is entrusted with arrangements.
Ioune was born January 3, 1915 in DeLamere, North Dakota to Edward and Bertina (Numedahl) Nelson. The family moved to Beach in 1921 where Ioune was educated and graduated from the Beach High School.
Ioune was married to Carl Davis on September 1, 1935 in Beach. They owned the Rock Inn Service station where Ioune ran a lunch room. Ioune and Carl built the Rock Inn which later became the Davis Mobil Gas Station and they also built and ran the Westgate Motel. They enjoyed being a part of the Beach business community.
Ioune was a faithful and involved member of the First Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, working in women's groups and making quilts. As a person of strong faith some might describe her as a "prayer warrior". She was also an active supporter of the Badlands Ministries and started a campership fund in memory of Carl. Ioune Served on the library board and in the garden club. She loved to sew and crochet and was known for her pillows that won several ribbons at the fair. Ioune's famous sugar cookies made their way into many homes and were the favorite of many young people who stopped by her home by the high school.
After the death of Carl, Ioune spent much of her time caring for her sisters Evelyn Nelson and Alice Anderson. They traveled together spending parts of most winters in Arizona visiting several nieces, nephews and many of the local "snow birds". They traveled many other places but always with the primary goal of visiting relatives. Family was everything to Ioune. She stayed in close contact with nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and friends, remembering birthdays and writing letters.
Ioune was preceded in death by her husband Carl and nine brothers and sisters.
Ioune is the last member of the large Nelson family and is survived by three sons; Duane (Karen) of Circle Pines, Minnesota, Don (Avis) of Longmont, Colorado and Doug (Laura) of Bozeman, Montana, four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Badlands Ministries, P.O. Box 305, Medora, North Dakota 58645 or to the First Lutheran Church of Beach.
