Edward Mitchell Brown, 93, the last survivor of the G. A. R. post of Bishop, California, died at his home on Eleventh street early Saturday. He was a native of Bradford county, Pa., and served with the Union army in the Civil war.
Hatch's Independent Battalion, Minnesota Vol. Cavalry.
The Merced American Legion post conducted military rites in Evergreen Memorial park. Brown joined the Union army in 1863 and participated in active service three years. He came to California from Minnesota and settled in Bishop in 1886. For several years he raised high grade alfalfa seed.
He and his wife came to Merced in 1926.
