William Walter Applequist, 72, 1308 Radcliffe Court, died at 6:20 p.m. Monday, June 15, 1981, in the emergency room of Swedish American Hospital after a short illness. Born April 23, 1909 in Tenney, Minn. son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Applequist. Lived 71 years in Rockford, coming here from Tenney, Minn. Married to the former Edith G.(note: should be "Y")Olson in Rockford, April 14, 1934. Employed as textile division superintendent by Barber-Coleman Co., retiring in 1975 after 43 years. Member of Rockford Masonic Lodge 102, YMCA retired men's club. He was an active golfer and bowler and the last charter member of the classic bowling leaque. Survivors include his wife, Edith: a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Judy) Sowl; two grandchildren Mrs. Kimberly Anderson and Charles Sowl; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Anderson, all of Rockford; several nieces and nephews.
Services at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 18, in Fred C Olson Mortuary, 1001 2nd Ave. with the Rev. Richard Hill, pastor of Broadway Evangelical Covenant Church, officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made for youth activities at the church or Rockford boys' baseball in lieu of flowers.
