Ronald "Tom" Baker, 71, of Columbia passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home. Tom was born May 16, 1940, in Columbia to James Melva and Marie Ella Sachs Baker. He graduated from Hickman High School. Tom worked for State Farm Insurance Co., retiring after 41 years of dedicated service as a senior commercial accounts underwriter. He was not only well-respected and highly knowledgeable but also a mentor to his fellow co-workers. Tom was a member of The Knights of Columbus for many years. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and technology, as well as maintaining his own tomato garden. He is survived by his nephews and nieces, Billy Baker of Chicago, Donna Caldwell (Allen) of Columbia, Sandie Stuby (Bill) of Columbia, Pattie Kasper of Columbia, Marsha Royster (Mike) of Warrenton, Jack Baker (Kim) of Arizona, Patricia Kuraszeck (Tim) of Chicago, Marie Wyzykowski of Chicago, Debbie Sciortino (Rachid) of Chicago; his uncle, Fred Baker of Columbia; sister-in-law Antoinette Baker of Chicago; and lifelong friend Jack Henerforth of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, one nephew, one niece and one great-niece.
