JACK SMITH

Jack Smith passed away June 29, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betsy Rae Smith of Central Point, daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Tom Nelson. He also had four grandchildren, Lori Latendresse, Rene' Kasma (and husband, Rodney), Braden Latendresse, Jaci Humphrey (and husband, Jason) and seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Sebastian, Brenna, Josh, Parker, Ryley, and Spencer Jack (named after his great-grandpa), all living in Washington. Jack is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Icenhower of Eagle Point, Oregon and many nieces and nephews and close friends who all loved him and will miss him very much. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dan and John Smith.

Jack was born on August 14, 1928 to Andrew J. and Maude M. (Kirby) Smith in Featherston, Oklahoma. His family relocated to Lakeview, Oregon in the early 1940s. He enlisted in the Navy in 1946-1948. After marrying Betsy in 1949, they moved to Klamath Falls and finally settled in Medford in 1952. He worked at various mills in the Rogue Valley and retired in 1990 from Boise Cascade after 32 years as a shipping clerk in the Plywood Department.

Jack always had a love for country music, old western TV shows and movies (especially John Wayne movies) and he loved woodworking. Many of his projects were grandfather clocks and hutches. He also played the fiddle and guitar. In 1977, he participated in the Weiser Idaho Fiddlers Competition. In his retirement years, he learned the craft of building fiddles.
