Richard Benjamin Poole was oldest child of Upton Sisson Poole and Avle Mae Dodd.He lived and worked on a farm , untill he entered the AirForce.He was stationed at various bases in California and Texas then going to Yokoto AFB in Japan. Here he was a mechanic on the Giant B36,largest bomber of it's day.Upon discharge from the Airforce he drove and delivered bread for The Wonder Bread Co. out of Greenville Ms.Later he would deliver cakes and cookies for a short time ,then worked as an aircraft mechanic at the Greenville AFBase. He moved from there to Decatur Alabama and worked for ABMA in Huntsville Alabama, on the Redstone and Jupiter Missiles. Transferred to Cape Canaveral with ABMA which later became NASA. He worked as a mechanic ,later as a refueling teck and later as an inspector on the Giant Saturn Moon Rockets during the Apollo missions then he went to Lancaster California and trained for the Space Shuttle Program.He worked as an inspector on all flights up to and after challenger. He give an analysis of the cause of this disaster a long time before an official cause was given. He was an avid fisherman and was ready to go any time at the drop of a hat, and would drop it himself if need be.While in the Air Force he married Jimmie Ruth Brown Dec.,26,1950. They had three children as follows Richard Lee Poole, Cynthia Ann Poole and Gerald Benjamin (Jerry)Poole.He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
