The Rev. John B. Tye, an Oblate priest who taught French and English at Northeast Catholic High School for many years, died Wednesday at the Veterans Hospital in Wilmington. He was 64 and lived at the Novitiate of tile Oblate of St. Francis de Sales, in Childs, Md.
Father Tye was ordained at Fribourg, Switzerland, in 1938. He taught French at Northeast Catholic until he entered the Army Chaplain Corps during World War II.
In 1946, Father Tye went to Lockport, N. Y., where he became principal of St. Francis de Sales High School there.
He took a leave of absence to return to the Chaplain Corps during the Korean conflict.
In 1958, Father Tye returned to Northeast Catholic, where he taught English until recently.
He retired from the Chaplain Corps as a lieutenant colonel.
Father Tye is survived by two sisters, Marie and Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Fey, and a brother F rank.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Innocents Church, L Street and Hunting Park Avenue. Burial will be in the Oblates Cemetery, Childs, MD.
