U.S. Congressman. He attended Centre College, St. Mary’s College, graduated from the law school of Cumberland University Tennessee, in 1931, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Lebanon, Kentucky. He was Attorney of Marion County, Kentucky, (1933-42), when served in World War II as a Major Chief Code Designator, Intelligence Division, Air Transport Command, Air Corps, U.S. Army. After the war, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth Congress and to the next ten succeeding Congresses, serving (1945-67). After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law and was a legislative consultant until his death at age 74.
