Ruth A. Strowig, age 94, of 724 4th St., Kiel died Monday morning, October 24, 2011 at her home.

She was born July 14, 1917, daughter of the late Theodore & Anitha (Prueter) Meyer. She was baptized by Rev. Caleb Hauser on September 23, 1917, with Anitha Prueter Meyer & Theodore Hauser as sponsors and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. Ruth attended Mineral Springs Grade School in the Town of Meeme.

She had previously been employed at the former Hansen Glove Factory, Kiel. The couple farmed in the Town of Mosel until 1963 when they moved to Kiel. She also was employed at Calumet Homestead, New Holstein for 14 years.

On April 12, 1941 she married Hamilton Strowig at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 12, 2011.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies aid and was also an active member of the Kiel VFW Auxiliary, Post #6707. She was a former member of the Mosel Homemakers, Sheboygan Co. & Willing Workers Homemakers, Kiel. Ruth enjoyed needlework, housekeeping and playing cards. Ruth & Hamilton enjoyed traveling, especially to Kiel, Germany where they visited several times with friends, Horst & Kristel Kruse. Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Hamilton of Kiel, one brother, Willard Meyer, Horseshoe Lake, one sister-in-law, Ella Meyer, Manitowoc, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; Harold & Milton Meyer. Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 28, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 387 Cemetery Road, Kiel with Rev. David Laabs & Rev. Jeremy Cares officiating. Burial will take place in Schleswig Cemetery, Town of Schleswig, Rockville.
