Donald C. Peterik, age 86, of Ann Arbor, Mich., went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, while in hospice care at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with family at his side.
Donald was born on March 8, 1920 in Manitowoc, the son of Charles Peterik and Lillian Peterik. He was a 1937 graduate of Lincoln High School, and on Aug. 23, 1941, he was married to Caroline Meyer in Manitowoc.
After his marriage Donald served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945. After his return from service he began his career with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Waukesha, eventually transferring in 1953 to the Ann Arbor Veterans Administration Hospital from where he retired in 1977. During this time he founded and played trumpet in the V.A. Hospital Ambassadors Band.
Donald and Caroline have been members of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor since arriving in 1953. He also loved bowling and was a member of the Old Timers Bowling Group until just two years ago.
Survivors included his wife of 65 years: Caroline Peterik; two daughters: Kary Ann (David) Devereaux and Marcia Sue (Ronald) Taylor; and two grandchildren: Amanda Powers and Brian Taylor.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1360 Pauline, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Pastor Robert Hoepner officiated.
