Helen Mae (Bunney) Miles, 87, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

She was born on July 7, 1924 near Skidmore, Missouri to Harry and Ruby (Wright) Bunney.

Helen graduated from Fairfax High School in 1942, and attended Johnson Business College in St. Joseph. After college she was employed in accounting at Big Smith Garment Factory.

On September 25, 1946 she married O'Neil Franklin Miles in Troy, Kansas. Helen and O'Neil worked together on their farm south of Fairfax until his death in 1988. She moved to Mound City in 1990, and later to Vintage Gardens in St. Joseph.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, O'Neil; her parents; infant brother, Wendell; and niece, Jeanie Rae (Hawkins) Moore.

Survivors include son, Wayne O'Neil (Tommie) of Rock Port, Missouri; daughter, Linda Jean (Maurice) Fothergill of Mound City, Missouri; grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Mange, Brent Miles, Karrington Miles, Joni (Kevin) Owens, and Stacie Scroggins; great grandchildren, Cooper, Jakely, Teller, Kristi (Justin), Alexandria, Brooklyn and Braedyn; sister, Phyllis Jean Hawkins of Fairfax; nephews, Greg and Rob; cousins and friends.

Helen and O'Neil enjoyed square dancing together, going to dances in matching outfits that Helen made by hand. They made trip to Illinois to visit Army friends, and to South Dakota fishing.

Helen was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church, and the Fairfax 49'ers Club.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 29th, 2011 at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City, where the family greeted friends one hour prior to the services. Interment was at the New Liberty Cemetery, Mound City.
