Services Held for Floyd D. Winfrey

Floyd Duane Winfrey passed away quite suddenly at his home in Independence, Mo., on April 19, following a heart attack, at the age of 48 years, 2 months, and 5 days.

Floyd, the youngest child of Jaames W. and Jessie M. Winfrey, was born Feb. 14, 1930 on a farm northeast of Burlington in the Happy Hollow Community, where he grew to manhood.

He attended Burlington High School and graduated with the class of '47.

On Nov. 22, 1947 he was united in marriage to Ellen J. Magee at Burlington and to this union two children were born, Michael W. of Independence, and Ruth E. Carter of Houston, Tex.

Floyde farmed with his father a few years, then moved to Independence in 1957 where he had operated the G & W Sales Co., Lee's Summit since 1964.

He was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rites bodies and the Ararat Temple.

He was preceeded in death by his parents. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Ellen; son Mike and wife, Kris; daughter Ruth and husband, Fred; three small granddaughters, Amy and Angela Winfrey and Jorja Carter; five brothers, James C. of Denver, Everett of Spanaway, Wash., Virgil of Yates Center, Irvin and Ray of Des Moines, Iowa, three sisters, Iva Barnhart of Denver, Mabel Davis and Lola Rhoades of Burlington, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 3 p.m., April 21 at the Carson Independence Chapel, with burial in Mount Washington Cemetery.

Relatives attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. James C. Winfrey, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Barnhart, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Butterfield, Denver; Everett Winfrey, Spanaway, Wash; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Winfrey, Yates Center, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Wade Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Rhoades, and Jean Osmus, Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Winfrey, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Winfrey and Bruce, Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Vera Reeves, Loveland; Mrs. Jim Hasart, Stratton; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Foster, Waukeegan, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kite, Auburn, Neb.
