OBITUARY
The Rochester Sentinel

Monday, August 11, 1958

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Argos Methodist church for Joseph N. SHIVERS, 41, chief of Argos volunteer fire department, who died of a heart attack Saturday noon while attending the Indiana Firemen's Association convention in Muncie. Shivers had been fire chief 10 years. He had suffered a heart condition the past 18 months and had been hospitalized for a time.

Born Dec. 6, 1916, in Green township, Marshall county, he had spent all his life in this community. He was graduated from Culver high school. His marriage was to Bernice SANDERSON in Winamac, Oct. 16, 1937.

Mr. Shivers was vice president and general manager of the Martin-Sanderson Lumber and Coal company, member of the Methodist church, Masonic lodge, was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the South Bend Scottish Rite, Argos Izaak Walton league and the Lions club.

Surviving are the wife; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Sheila) KELLEY, Rochester; Sharon Jo [SHIVERS], at home; two sons, David Neil and Michael Scott [SHIVERS], both at home; three sisters, Mrs. Whitney (May) KLINE, Culver; Mrs. Norman (Lucille) DAVIS, Argos, and Mrs. Oliver (Arville) TEEL, Mentone; one brother, Meryl [SHIVERS], Argos; the stepmother, Mrs. Elizabeth SHIVERS, R.R. 3, Argos; one stepsister, Mrs. Velma BUCHER, and one stepbrother, Robert WOOLRIDGE, both of Indianapolis.

Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery. The body will be in the church from noon Tuesday until the hour of the service. The Masonic lodge will conduct graveside services, assisted by the State Firemen's Association. Friends may call at the Grossman funeral home in Argos.
