Marie M. Kirsch, the daughter of John Paul and Elizabeth (Rechsfertig) Kirsch, was born on January 2, 1917 in Robey, SD. Marie grew up during the Great Depression and those hard times resulted in her resourceful and resilient atitude to life. She graduated from White Lake High School and later graduated from the Mitchell Business School. She worked her way through both schools, because she said there was no money. She was an excellent secretary working at that time for the Farm Home Administration in Plankinton, SD.

Marie married Vincent P. Dunn on June 13, 1938, and they lived for a time in Plankinton, until he was transferred to Huron for a position with the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Agency. They had four children. She returned to work for Standard Oil Company, and later for the Farm Bureau Insurance Company for many years.

Vincent died in June of 1969, and Marie was a widow for a great many years. She was brave and active, and kept on with her life. She was a faithful Catholic and a stalwart Democrat all her life. She was a wonderful cook. Her pies were perfection, as were her fried chicken, and potato salad; really everything was good. She did beautiful embroidery and created a number of extraordinary crewel pictures that she gave to most family members and a lot of friends.

Marie took care of her brother, Francis, until his death in 1987, having moved to Mitchell sometime before his illness to be closer to him. She lived contentedly in Mitchell, where she had many great friends, untill waning health caused her to move to Boise in 2005.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children; Joanne (Arnold) Hartigan; Pat Dunn (her former daughter-in-law Kay); Susie (Ted) Thrush, and Eddie (Genny Sandberg) Dunn; four grandchildren: Christie (David) Perlmutter; James (Angie) Dunn, Jesse Dunn, and Zoe Dunn; four great-grandchildren: Marika and Miranda Perlmutter; Connor Dunn, and Ryan Dunn; and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vincent in 1969; her two brothers Nick and Francis Kirsch; and two sisters, Lucille and Hilda..
