From "The Giltner Gazette", Giltner, Nebraska dated Thursday, April 5, 1917, Page 1:
D. L. Hackett Dies Suddenly
The sudden death of D. L. Hackett Tuesday morning came as a decided shock to the community as well as to the family. Mrs. Hackett was feeling as well as common and had partaken of a hearty breakfast that morning and did his customary chores about the place. His death occurred about 10 o'clock, coming immediately after opening a gate that George Soward might drive through with a team and wagon. One of the animals Mr. Soward was driving shied while passing through the opening and upon looking around he saw the limp form partly supported by the gate. Mr. Hackett had suffered some years from heart trouble but few people outside the members of the family were aware of it until the end came. The funeral will be held from the house at two o'clock this afternoon. The obituary will appear next week.
