Atlanta Mayor. He left his law practice to join the Confederate Army, where he served as a Captain, then Major, in the 9th Georgia Infantry Regiment, a unit that lost all but ten men in the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. From 1870 to 1874, he was a member of the Georgia state senate. He was appointed judge of the Fulton County Superior Court in 1877. From 1885 to 1886, he served as the mayor of Atlanta, Georgia. His descendants are several in these modern times.
