Joseph Peterson was an American psychologist and a past president of the American Psychological Association (APA). He became the center of the 1911 Brigham Young University modernism controversy, in which he and three other professors, including his half-brother Henry, argued that modern science such as evolution was compatible with Christian and Mormon theology.
