Sculptor, philanthropist, and politican. As a young man, he worked as a sculptor in New York City, where he carved statues for the Federal building. After he moved to Cleveland, Carabelli founded a nursery and kindergarten in 1895 for the children of working mothers in the neighborhood. Elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1908, where he was instrumental in legislation proclaiming Columbus Day an official holiday in 1910.
